the journal's journey
A journal kept in plain sight.

A casual writer and community observer who taught back home and now listens closely to Edmonton's immigrant creative scene — tenacious, curious, and always paying attention.
I started Zaria Zen Journal on a bench by the river valley, the summer I realized how many extraordinary artists were making work in this city without anyone outside their community knowing their names. Newcomers, refugees, second-generation builders — each carrying a creative tradition across a border.
The journal isn't a magazine. There's no editorial calendar, no advertisers, no algorithm. There is only Edmonton — its immigrant galleries, its alleyway murals, its multicultural stages — and a reader trying to pay proper attention.
If you have a space, a show, a studio or a story from the immigrant creative community you'd like included, the inbox is always open.
Edmonton is a city that rewards the patient. The journal is just a way of paying that attention back.
